Yes what you read above was right, the new super food in the face of cockroach milk has found, the international team of scientists just find the protein crystal located in the mid-gut of cockroaches and the most important thing is that it is four tomes nutritious as compare it to cow’s milk, the research shows that it could be the key feeding to the population growing of our future. But thing which needs to be mention here is that not every Cockroach produces the milk even most of the cockroaches doesn’t produces the milk, Diploptera punctate, that is the only one type known cockroach to give birth to live young, that has been shown to pump out a type of ‘milk’ containing protein crystals which we can feed to babies. But the fact is that the amount an insect produces milk is pretty attractive – but what captivated researchers is the fact that a single one of these protein crystals found from the mid-gut of the cockroach contains higher than 3 times the amount of energy found in an equivalent amount of buffalo milk on this moment it is to remember that the Buffalo milk is also very high in calories as compare it to dairy milk. But till now it is not feasible option to feed the cockroach milk so scientist are working to replicate the milk in their labs.
Is cockroach milk Toxic to humans??
It is very difficult to answer this question as the researchers have not completed their research that this milk will be toxic to human or not, but according to the Ramaswamy said that only one of his colleague has tasted the cockroach milk and he find it very boring, but the researchers are working on this new found of super food and soon they will let us know whether its toxic or good for human health, there are still many question to answer as about the feasibility, taste and now weather it is toxic or not, but the researchers are confident that they will find the answers of every question sooner and will market this new super food to the public.
There is one more problem which faced by the researchers and according to them that the cockroaches just don’t have, nipples to give milk, so you can’t milk a cockroach. A cockroach milk inspired beverage would have to come from yeast, and therein lays the problem.
The team now plans to use a yeast system to produce more crystals to possibly be used as protein supplements in the future.
According to some other researchers it is a sound new research but they believe it would be difficult to extract milk from cockroaches on a large scale, like we do with cattle. In their opinion, “it can only likely to be done in a harsh method with only very small quantities. Which means you would have to rise and kill a lot of quantity of cockroaches to get even a tiny amount of the proteins, so in first look it doesn’t appear as the feasible idea but if the researchers who are working on this idea will found any way by that they can increase the quantity or replicate that milk in a laboratory than it could be great as the super food of the future generation.
